Exploring L.A.N.D. Project

L.A.N.D. = Learning, Ability, and Neurological Diversity

With co-Principal Investigator Dr. Sara Smith, I am studying California State University, East Bay students who identify as having a disability or learning difference.  We have conducted qualitative research with 45 students through interviews and focus groups, and administered an online survey to 107 students.  We've also teamed up with Dr. Erin Woodhead of San Jose State University, who has administered a modified version of the survey to 48 students with disabilities, and 61 students with mental health conditions who are not registered for accommodations.

In collaboration with Dr. Alina Engelman, Dr. Patricia Drew, Accessibility Services, the University Libraries, and other members of the Cal State East Bay community, we are creating web resources in order to help faculty, staff, and students better understand people with disabilities or who identify as neurodivergent.  We have also developed and facilitated trainings and workshops about accessible teaching.

This project was funded by a Diversity and Inclusive Excellence Grant award from CSUEB.
